About Us

What is All About Curating (AAC)?

All About Curating (AAC) is a curatorial initiative based in Berlin (Germany), founded by Mahzabin Haque. It is a unique global platform including 61 art professionals representing 38 countries, dedicated to exploring innovative methods of collaboration, by transcending geographical, cultural, and institutional boundaries. By bringing together a diverse array of curators, artists, researchers, art managers, editors, grant writers, cultural managers, and other art workers, AAC creates a dynamic and inclusive platform that supports innovative curatorial practices and collaborative efforts.

Decentralizing Curatorial Knowledge.

AAC is committed to decentralizing essential information about curatorial practices worldwide.  Instead of creating a bubble of curators, by the curators, and for the curators, it embraces diverse voices and perspectives from all relevant stakeholders. AAC goes beyond the traditional confines of curatorship as individualistic and hierarchical to a more inclusive, horizontal, and collective approach.

Fostering Global Collaboration.

At its core, AAC is about fostering meaningful connections and collaborations among art professionals globally. It facilitates dialogue and cooperative projects that bridge cultural and geographical divides, encouraging the exchange of ideas and practices. AAC’s commitment to inclusivity ensures that curators and artists can learn from each other and work together in innovative ways, despite the trivial institutional and bureaucratic challenges.

Vision for the Future.

AAC envisions itself as the leading platform for curatorial practice, cultivating a vibrant and inclusive global art community. By decentralizing information and promoting collaborative efforts, AAC enhances the field of curation and supports the growth and development of art professionals worldwide. AAC's mission is to overcome barriers and create a cohesive, cooperative network that reflects the rich diversity of the global art world.

Our Story

How did we start?

All About Curating (AAC) began modestly as a Facebook group titled "Curatorial Opportunities" in 2019. Recognizing the scarcity of accessible, dedicated platforms for curatorial opportunities, Mahzabin Haque created an open Facebook group to address this gap. She invited fellow curators, artists, and scholars to join, sharing every curatorial opportunity she encountered. Over time, this grassroots initiative flourished, evolving into a vibrant community that, by 2024, comprises over 5,700 global art workers, including curators, artists, researchers, editors, critics, writers, and museologists.

Evolution into a Structured Platform

As the group expanded, so did the interests and expectations of its members. Recognizing Facebook's limitations in providing the necessary infrastructure for organized knowledge dissemination, Mahzabin envisioned a more structured web platform. This new platform aimed to offer greater value by systematically centralizing and sharing curatorial information. To bring this vision to life, Mahzabin convened a Global Member’s Meeting, seeking the community’s input and participation in reshaping the group into what is now All About Curating (AAC).

Community-Driven Development

The response was overwhelmingly positive. Over 60 art workers from around the world attended the meeting, and 61 individuals from 37 countries volunteered to contribute to developing the group, participating in up to two collaborative circles each. Under Mahzabin Haque's leadership and with guidance from the Board of Advisors, these circle members—known as AAC Ambassadors—regularly meet over Zoom. These meetings serve as shared spaces for knowledge exchange, mutual support, and collective decision-making about the platform's future.

What's Next?

Together, AAC Ambassadors are shaping a platform that aspires to be the leading resource for curatorial practice. Through periodic Zoom meetings, Ambassadors engage in rich dialogues, learning from one another, and envisioning the future of AAC. This collaborative effort aims to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive global art community, reflecting the diverse voices and perspectives of its members.

All About Curating is more than just a platform; it is a global movement dedicated to redefining curatorial practice through inclusivity and collective effort.
